In memory of my brother Colin
6th July 1970 - 5th July 2003
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham

My name is James Dale Law, and I am the second to oldest of a very close and caring family of six children and a wonderful Mum that we are all so very proud of and love so very much . I spent most of my career working away from home in HM Forces Army and on offshore oil rig installations for approximately 9 years in the North Sea Norway.  I then decided to move closer to home and worked as a Fire Officer.

At this time on a visit to my family and knowing that my youngest brother Colin was becoming increasingly ill I decided to end my career and take on a much more important role of becoming a carer for Colin and helping my Mum with all her hard work .

Then finally in 2003 following Colin’s numerous hospital visits and his deteriorating condition an appointment was set for us to attend a pre-op assessment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham a procedure which takes a total 5 days to complete.

It was 19th of May 2003 when my brother Colin was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.  His condition was called Haemocromatosis a rare iron overload causing severe liver damage which could only be cured with a liver transplant so we where told?  On what we thought was the final day of successful tests that Colin had achieved we went to Birmingham to collect him and bring him home but his temperature was a little high and it would be better for him to remain in hospital for a little longer... 6 weeks longer in fact having suffered 4 wks with pneumonia and M.R.S.A. without us being informed in any way shape or form.

Sadly my Brother Colin never did get to come home as we watched him suffer and lose his fight to live in that horrible dirty hospital he was so brave.  A braver man than myself was the last thing I recall saying to him.  This is when we decided that something had to be done to help other sufferers and families in whatever way we could .

We have recently formed the Charity MRSA ACTION UK with so many dedicated people who have also suffered or lost a loved one and together we aim to help and support others in our campaign.
