In memory of my dear husband

Bob Newson 15th October 1953 - 5th April 2004

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (London)

Charing Cross Hospital (London)

Kingston Hospital (Surrey)

West Middlesex Hospital (Middlesex)

I met some of the members of the group during the BBC documentary that took place in August 2005 and it did not take a lot of persuasion for me to join MRSA Action UK!  I was very impressed by these wonderful people campaigning for higher cleanliness standards and who made their voices heard. Most of us have something in common: the loss of a loved one.

The many infections my husband Bob caught during lengthy stays in several hospitals, some local and some in London, could have been avoided if rigorous hygiene measures had been followed and I have had plenty of opportunity to observe that a lot of the staff, doctors as well as nurses, not carrying out these procedures.  Because of these infections, plus MRSA in his leg ulcers, he was treated with strong intravenous antibiotics, thus further weakening his immune system. He always worked hard despite an existing heart condition and should have had an operation around Easter 2004 but he wasn’t given the chance to live long enough for that. He passed away at the age of 50 on 5th April 2004. His death certificate shows septicaemia as one of the causes of his death. Since then I have cancelled all appointments received for whatever check-ups I need as I can’t bear to be at the mercy of any medical staff.  In my next life perhaps I might forgive them but as for now I have nothing but contempt.
